The Avenue of Expression: Mouth Work 2.0 is an on demand professional study group for CranioSacral Therapists and students trained through the Upledger Institute International.

This advanced study group deepens practitioners’ relationship with intra-oral CranioSacral work by integrating technical precision, therapeutic presence, trauma sensitivity, and clinical reasoning. Building on SER1 skill and foundational hard palate protocols, it reframes mouth work not as mechanical technique, but as a profound gateway into the nervous system, self-expression, and healing unresolved trauma.

The program is facilitated by Suzanne Scurlock, CST-D, a senior instructor with more than 40 years of experience teaching CranioSacral Therapy. Participants receive lifetime access to professionally recorded lectures, demonstrations, and clinical Q&A.

Prerequisite: SER1

Investment: Only $99

Detailed Overview

The Avenue of Expression: Mouth Work 2.0 invites practitioners to step beyond protocol into fluency — cultivating comfort, anatomical clarity, and embodied presence in intra-oral work.

  • Trauma-informed consent strategies for mouth work techniques

  • Clinical refinement of restriction, arcing, and primary lesion assessment

  • Integration of anatomy and energetic awareness in the oral cavity

  • Dental, orthodontic, and implant considerations in practice

  • Therapist ergonomics and embodied self regulation

What This Study Group Explores

  • The oral cavity as a structural and emotional-energetic crossroads

  • The trigeminal system and its role in fight/flight/freeze regulation

  • How to safely introduce mouth work to hesitant or trauma-sensitive clients

  • Zygomatic release as a non-invasive gateway into mouth work

  • Millimeter-level precision in finger placement and listening to the tissue

  • Layered work with the hard palate, soft palate, hyoid, and thoracic inlet

  • Working with restriction using arcing, still points, and primary lesion assessment

  • Clinical considerations around braces, Invisalign, mal-occlusion, implants, and infections

  • The difference between "CST neutral" and therapeutic presence

Learning Outcomes

Participants will refine their intra-oral CranioSacral Therapy skills by:

  • Learning to introduce mouth work safely

  • Assessing and following primary lesions through arcing

  • Integrating energetic direction with anatomical precision

  • Working confidently with complex dental and trauma histories

Practitioners will deepen their embodied presence, enabling more effective regulation and profound release within the trigeminal and oral systems.

Why This Matters in Practice

Mouth work often holds the key to unresolved structural and emotional patterns. When approached skillfully, it can create profound system-wide shifts.

  • Releases long-held jaw and trigeminal restrictions

  • Supports sinus, visual, and cranial base function

  • Facilitates the healing of stored shock and suppressed expression

Therapeutic presence is critical in mouth work — especially with trauma-sensitive clients.

  • Increases client safety and regulation

  • Reduces defensive guarding and fear responses

  • Allows deeper, more sustainable release

What's Included

All components were professionally recorded live over Zoom.

Details on Our Study Groups

All the lectures, demos, and Q&A were filmed live over Zoom. You can watch from your location with a practice partner or on your own.

The beauty of this type of study group is that the cost of registration gives you lifetime access to the video to watch as many times as you need so you will get all the nuances that you may have missed during the initial lecture and demonstration. You can revisit the material again and again until you feel confident to put the skills into practice.
