How to Fall in Love with the Essence of CST Techniques is an on demand professional study group for CranioSacral Therapists and students trained through the Upledger Institute International.

In this study group, participants are guided back to the subtle, grounded, in-the-body touch that forms the foundation of effective CranioSacral Therapy and SomatoEmotional Release. The focus is on developing embodied perception, confidence in palpation, and a felt understanding of technique that grows more reliable and enjoyable with practice.

The program is facilitated by Suzanne Scurlock, CST-D, a senior instructor with more than 40 years of experience teaching CranioSacral Therapy. Participants receive lifetime access to professionally recorded lectures, demonstrations, and clinical Q&A.

Prerequisite: CST 2 and above

Investment: Only $99

Detailed Overview

This study group invites you to reconnect with the Essence of CranioSacral Therapy techniques—not as rote protocols, but as living processes that deepen as your perception refines.

Participants explore how:

  • Understanding the techniques in depth supports more effective SER work

  • Confidence in the “geeky bits” reduces anxiety and over-effort

  • Falling in love with the essence of the techniques leads to steadier, more embodied sessions

Rather than trying to think your way into mastery, this work emphasizes practice, curiosity, and trust in what your hands are sensing.

What This Study Group Explores

This study group weaves together clinical insight, examiner perspectives, and embodied practice, including:

  • The inner shift from “doing techniques” to sensing and following what you perceive

  • How fascination and curiosity keep you present instead of anxious

  • What CST examiners are actually looking for—and why the process is not meant to “get you”

  • The relationship between technique clarity and confidence in SER work

  • Real-world sequencing versus formal protocol sequencing

  • Practical preparation strategies that build confidence without burnout

Learning Outcomes

Participants learn how to:

  • Deepen embodied perception

  • Refine palpation confidence

  • Understand the core intent behind CST techniques

  • Apply both technical and verbal clarity in clinical and exam settings with greater ease and trust

Why This Matters in Practice

When therapists reconnect with the essence of CST techniques, their work changes in meaningful ways.

Clinically, this supports:

  • Greater steadiness and confidence in hands-on work

  • Clearer perception without forcing or overthinking

  • More reliable access to subtle cues that guide technique selection

Professionally, this supports:

  • Reduced anxiety around testing and evaluation

  • A healthier relationship to learning and mastery

  • Confidence that carries beyond protocols into everyday sessions
