Expanding the 10 Step Protocol is a 3 part on demand professional study group for CranioSacral Therapists and students trained through the Upledger Institute International.
This study group builds on Part 1 deepening your understanding of the 10-Step Protocol by moving beyond mechanical technique into clinical reasoning, tissue listening, and anatomical integration.
Together, we explore how cranial relationships influence drainage, intra-orbital pressure, cranial nerve function, and systemic vitality — and how refined listening transforms outcomes.
In Part 2, the facilitators continue with variations on the original techniques that they have found to be more effective.
The program is facilitated by Suzanne Scurlock, CST-D, a senior instructor with more than 40 years of experience teaching CranioSacral Therapy. Participants receive lifetime access to professionally recorded lectures, demonstrations, and clinical Q&A.

Refining the 10-Step Protocol: From Technique to Clinical Mastery
In this study group, you will explore:
The difference between “five grams” as a concept and how to truly meet the tissue
When and why pressure may naturally increase during therapeutic engagement
The dynamic relationship between the frontal bone, sphenoid, and temporal bones
The hyoid as a clinical doorway affecting the occipital base and the avenue of expression
Layer-by-layer listening to: skin, bone, membrane, immune cells, and the electrical field of the brain
Dialogue as a therapeutic tool — including the power of simply asking, “What are you noticing now?”
Clinical discernment when working with complex cases such as glaucoma or cancer
This study group emphasizes that mastery of the 10-Step Protocol lies not in adding new techniques — but in refining timing, anatomical awareness, presence, and responsiveness.
How to revisit the core Cranial 1 skill set with greater nuance and confidence
The clinical implications of frontal–sphenoid–temporal relationships
Why drainage precedes pressure normalization
How forgotten injuries may underlie present symptoms
When to wait, when to circle back, and when synchrony confirms completion
How to orient toward health rather than pathology in complex presentations
Through a detailed clinical case involving glaucoma, cataract surgery, and a forgotten head trauma, you will see how returning to foundational techniques — frontal lift, sphenoid decompression, temporal decompression — can significantly influence intra-orbital pressure and overall function.
By participating in this study group, you will:
Deepen your ability to “meet the tissue” rather than impose the technique
Understand how and when pressure increases therapeutically without becoming invasive
Recognize the interdependence of cranial structures within the 10-Step sequence
Develop greater discernment in complex or medically involved cases
Refine your ability to listen layer by layer
Strengthen confidence in waiting for true “float” before proceeding
Integrate therapeutic presence into structural work
When you understand bone relationships rather than isolated techniques:
You work more efficiently
You utilize lighter touch
You achieve deeper and more lasting outcomes
When you refine listening rather than adding techniques:
The body shows you what needs attention
Emotional acknowledgment often unlocks structural release
You trust therapeutic timing and have patience
All components were professionally recorded live over Zoom.
Your registration includes:
A full-length lecture on 10-Step Protocol – Part Two: Integration, Nuance, and Clinical Application
Live demonstrations illustrating frontal, sphenoid, and temporal integration
Clinical insights drawn from over six decades combined of teaching and clinical experience
Practitioner Q&A exploring pressure, sequencing, and complex cases
Lifetime access via the Online Training Center (OTC)
This study group is designed for CranioSacral Therapists and students of CranioSacral Therapy seeking to:
Refine their palpation and tissue listening skills
Integrate clinical reasoning into the 10-Step Protocol
Build confidence working with complex or layered cases

Suzanne Scurlock, CST-D
Creator of Healing From the Core®
For more than 40 years, Suzanne Scurlock — senior instructor for the Upledger Institute International — has been helping CranioSacral Therapists and students strengthen and refine their palpation skills, sensitivity, grounded therapeutic presence, and confidence.
Her live courses, online study groups, and mentoring sessions support practitioners in every stage of their journey — from first discovering CranioSacral Therapy to mastering advanced SER work and beyond.
Suzanne is the author of two acclaimed books: Full Body Presence: Learning to Listen to Your Body’s Wisdom and Reclaiming Your Body: Healing from Trauma and Awakening to Your Body’s Wisdom.
Catherine Whelan, CST-D
Catherine is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. She chose a degree in kinesiology because of her lifelong interest in anatomy and the way the body works. After finishing her undergraduate degree, she became a Certified Health and Fitness Specialist through American College of Sports Medicine.
With the desire to achieve a more encompassing understanding of the body, Catherine attended Boulder College of Massage Therapy and became a licensed Massage Therapist. Catherine's hands on experience and continued education led her ultimately to Upledger CranioSacral Therapy. She is a Diplomate level CranioSacral Therapist and now a certified instructor for the Upledger Institute.

Details on Our Study Groups
All the lectures, demos, and Q&A were filmed live over Zoom. You can watch from your location with a practice partner or on your own.
The beauty of this type of study group is that the cost of registration gives you lifetime access to the video to watch as many times as you need so you will get all the nuances that you may have missed during the initial lecture and demonstration. You can revisit the material again and again until you feel confident to put the skills into practice.
